Receipt Scanner & Expense Tracker — Itemise Any Receipt

Snap a grocery, fuel, restaurant or takeaway receipt and get a clean itemised list, then see where your money goes each month. Installable app.

Free receipt scanner: snap any receipt, get an itemised list

Take a photo of a receipt — groceries, fuel, a dinner out, a takeaway, the pharmacy — and SpendSnap turns it into a clean, itemised list: every line with a clear name (no more “FRSH MLK 2L”), quantity, price and category. Each receipt is saved on your phone, so you can see exactly where your money goes each month, how much goes on fuel or eating out, and how prices change from shop to shop. Install it as an app and keep it on your home screen.

How to use it

  1. Tap Scan receipt and photograph the receipt. For a long supermarket slip, take two to four photos from top to bottom.
  2. Check the itemised list. Fix any name, quantity or price, add or remove lines, and save.
  3. Open Spending for your monthly totals by type — groceries, fuel, eating out, takeaways — and by category, Prices to compare what you paid for an item (or a litre of fuel) at different places, and List to build your next shopping list from things you buy often.

No receipt? Photograph your grocery shopping itself — on the table or in the bags — to get a list of what you bought, then add the prices.

What you can do with it

  • Track a monthly budget for groceries, fuel, restaurants and takeaways.
  • Split a restaurant bill or a shared shop between friends, flatmates or family.
  • Share an itemised list on WhatsApp, or download a PDF or a spreadsheet (CSV) for Excel or Google Sheets — handy for expense claims.
  • Spot price rises on the things you buy every week, including the price per litre of fuel.

Frequently asked questions

Where are my receipts stored?

Only on your own device, in your browser’s private storage. Toolzees cannot see them. Use Back up to save a copy to a file, because clearing browser data or losing your phone also removes them.

What happens to the photo?

The photo is made smaller on your phone, then sent securely to our AI provider (Anthropic or OpenAI) to read the items, and the list comes straight back to your phone. Toolzees does not store your photo, and the app only keeps it if you tick “Keep the photo”.

Does it work with any shop or currency?

Yes. It reads receipts from supermarkets, markets, fuel stations, restaurants and takeaways in any country and currency, including rupees, rand, US dollars, pula and euros. Faded or crumpled receipts work best photographed flat in good light.

Is it free?

Yes — completely free with no sign-up. Toolzees is supported by advertising.

How do I install it?

Tap Install app at the top of this page. On iPhone, tap the Share button in Safari and choose Add to Home Screen.
